This blog is being created to help chronicle the journey of Eben, but also to help me, his mom, deal with things as they arise. I love writing, and I think if I get things off my chest so to speak, I will find a sense of peace from this as well.
I may or may not actually keep up with this, but right now it seems like something I want to do.
My husband says I have a tendency to over-dramatize things, so I may be what some would call an unreliable narrator, but I promise these events will be written as I remember them, which may or may not be how it happened.
So to start, why did I decide to call this blog "The 11th Warrior"?
Eben's name comes from the movie The 13th Warrior, which is this movie from 1999, in which Antonio Banderas stars as this middle eastern guy who winds up going on an adventure with a bunch of Vikings. They don't speak the same language, so when a translator tells the main character that they want to know his name, he rattles off his full name, something along the lines of Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan Ibn Al Abbas Ibn Rashid. All that the Viking gets out of this is "Eben".

This is one of Kyle's favorite movies to fall asleep to (we have made it all the way through the movie together maybe twice), and we thought it was a unique name without being too crazy.
We know that people will constantly call him Evan, but when your dad's name is Kyle and gets called everything from Todd to Tyler to Cobb to Carl, you don't have much hope for people getting your name right.
Eben is the 11th grandchild on my side and on Kyle's side. As far as my brothers' kids, Mike has Morgan and Marissa, Chris has CJ, Bo, and Kaytie, and Scott has Catcher and Noah. James also has Brandon, Nichole, and Chris as grandkids, so that makes Eben #11 on my side.
On Kyle's side, Bobby has Madison and Ryan, Mikey has Colton and Parker, Miah has Jada and Sebastian, Beth has Presli and Lane, and Lisa has Mason and Sadie, making Eben #11 on that side as well.
As far as the warrior part, this is one tough kid. He was in two car wrecks before he was even born, and his birth just sealed the deal, but that is a post for another time.
